This miracle occurred on the twenty seventh night of Rajab, when God sent Jibreel to the Prophet with al-Buraq, a very swift riding beast. The Prophet mounted al-Buraq and rode on it to al-Aqsa in Jerusalem in a matter of a few moments. When he reached there, the other prophets prayed in congregation behind him. Then he ascended to the seventh heaven where he entered the divine company of his Lord. God made the five daily prayers obligatory upon the Muslims during this great journey, which came to be known as the Isra’ and Mi’raj.
When Muhammad returned from the Isra’ and Mi’raj, he told his people what had happened to him. They didn’t believe him and began to mock him cruelly.
